St. Francis of Assisi Church

My parish church -- St. Francis of Assisi Church (and monastery of Franciscans).

Below the photo not from Chorzów -- singers and players in SS Peter and Paul Church (in Katowice) -- I was listening there Handel's Messiah on Friday. Soloists: Carolina Ullrich (soprano, born in Chile), Anja Schlosser (alt, Germany), Dominik Wortig (tenor, Germany), and Simon Kirkbride (bas, UK). Choirs: Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart (Germany) and Camerata Silesia (Poland). Players: Bach-Collegium Stuttgart and Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Conductor: Helmuth Rilling. As You can see 'Messiah' was quite international.

Election campaign

Elections to the European Parliament are closer and close. But on streets there are only a few billboards and posters. And not all billboards and posters look well.
Well... Wybory = election. Kredyty = credits. Below: a politician during campaign (in The Silesian Park of Culture and Recreation).

SkyWatch Friday: airplane, question and answer

Question: How far from me was the airplane on the photo?
Answer: About one mile.
Explanation: As You can see, the airplane belongs to hungarian
airlines WizzAir. WizzAir uses only Airbus A320 airplanes. Airbus A320 is about 37 meters long. The width of the visible area for my camera (for the zoom I used for this photo) is 10 cm in the distance 1 m. It means, that the airplane was about 1650 m from me -- slightly more than 1 mile.

I presented this photo on my blog simply named 'Zdjęcia' (photos) on Sunday... For visitors of the blog one more photo of the sky (from Sunday, it is raining today):

    St Elisabeth Church

St Elisabeth Church (Evanvelical-Augsburg Church) from the years 1840-1844 (in Gothic Revival style). Small church (with graveyard), unfortunately the Lutherans are not a big group in Chorzów*, and the church is not trim...

    ---
*) In the 19th Century the group was important and rich, because many Lutherans from Lower Silesia come here: engineers, doctors, etc. (It was a time of rapid growth of Upper Silesia.) But there were mainly Germans, so when Chorzów become a part of Poland (first in 1922, next in 1945, when many Germans were exiled), the Lutherans become less important and influential.

    Denarius of Chorzów

Everyone can buy in museum "denary chorzowskie" (I have problem with english name, because polish 'denar' is a word used for Roman silver denarius, gold dinard, french denier, etc. the coin is in fact made of brass). Denomination of the coin is '4 denars', that is exactly 4 zloty's (0.89 euro; 1.20$; 0.78 GBP; 115.15 JPY).

On the face of the coin (above) is the town coat of arms. On the reverse (below) is the Post Office.

    Wet handrail

Yesterday was a "Long Night of Museums" (in Poland simply: "Noc muzeów" -- Night of Museums) -- museums were open in the night, and tickets are free. I've visited Muzeum in Chorzów (below), but when I've asked: "May I take a photo in museum?" I've heard: "Yes, but only for private use, you're not allowed to published the photos in the internet." So, there are no photos of the expositions. (It's a pity, because the museum has interesting collection of coins, especially polish and silesian.)

I've been tagged by Fio & Marito and by m_m (thank You!). The rules are simple: Tag and link back to the person who tagged you. List six (un) important things that make you happy. Tag six bloggers and let them know they're "it".

    Well, my "happy things":
    1) A hot tea in cold day.
    2) Music. Maybe not all music :) A short list of favorite composers: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Monteverdi, Handel, Vivaldi, Scarlatti (A.), Brahms, Mahler...
    3) A good book. (Good doesn't means any special kind of books -- I prefer novels and history.)
    4) Walks. (If it possible in mountains.)
    5) Jokes. (For example -- photos made by Mira Petran from Slovakia. I saw the exhibition "My Celebrities" in Katowice, a week ago.)
    6) Visiting cities and towns from the whole world on City Daily Photo.

And six tagged bloggers (in 'alphabetical order'):
    1) Abe Lincoln from Brookville Daily Photo.
    2) Glenn Standish from Toruń Daily Photo.
    3) MaCoBra from Woerden Daily Photo.
    4) Magic Eye from Mubay Daily Photo.
    5) Tanya from Around Roanoke.
    6) Walker from San Diego Daily Photo.

Answering m_m's question: No, the yesterday photo doesn't present an anti-UEFA rocket :) UEFA decision on Euro 2012 sities (to not organize Euro 2012 matches on Silesian Stadium in Chorzów) was a disappointment, and one of the local newspapers had a black front page yesterday. But we have no anti-UEFA rockets at all :) Even on Field of Mars near Silesium Stadion :)

Church in the Silesian Heritage Park

A week ago m_m asked me about a wooden church, partially visible on the photo. The St. Joseph Church (but be careful -- there is another St Joseph Church in Chorzów) was originally built in Nieboczów (in 1791). Below -- interior of the church.

    National costumes

Yesterday, I was visiting The Silesian Festivities (Śląskie Gody) in the Silesian Heritage Park (part of the Silesian Culture and Recreation Park). The Silesian Heritage Park presents a folk art from the whole Silesian Province, so not only from my region, but also from mountains and from Zaglembie -- I am not an expert at folk art, but I am sure that the men's costumes (above) are correct for my region, so I think the women's costumes are also from 'here'.

    PS.
I've used 'national costumes' proposed by dictionary. But maybe better is folk dress or traditional garment, because the costumes are strictly regional -- their come from Upper Silesia. Even in the Silesian Province we have different costumes -- in mountain area, and in Zaglembie. In whole Poland there are many regional folk dresses.

    Theme Day: Shadow

Shadows are really everywhere. But... It is quite difficult problem to find a proper shadow in a proper time (before May, 1st) in proper light conditions... On the photo my own shadow, on the way to work (about 6:30, so the shadow is long).
