  1. I would love to see that with my own eyes since the technique is quite new to me.

  4. This is a very unusual and distinctive style for stained glass in a church. Great choice for theme day.

  6. That is an incredible window. That is actually painted glass. Most of the window is made from regular clear window pane that has been painted. First the artist paints the black lines; then the artist paints the grey with highlights; then the final layer of painting is to paint the gold. The gold is actually called silver stain because its base is silver. (The last time I bought silver stain, it cost $450 per pound.) The paint is fired onto the surface of the glass while the silver staining melts into the glass. By controlling the different amounts of silver stain and varying the firing temperature, you can produce soft golds to deep yellow orange golds. It is a very beautiful technique and takes a very skilled artist. Some studios will have one artist who only paints the black lines, then another who only paints the grey mid tones / highlights, and then a third who only paints with the silver stains.

    Thanks for posting this photo!
